Creamed coconut (sometimes referred to as coconut butter), is made from the unsweetened dehydrated fresh pulp of a mature coconut which is ground to a semi-solid white creamy paste.
It is sold as a hard white block which can be stored at room temperature. It is ideal to use in cooking when you require a coconut flavour but may not want to add additional liquid to a recipe.
It can be chopped or grated for use in cooking and you will often see the separation of the pure coconut fat and coconut flesh within the block. Creamed coconut is a healthy alternative to dairy and being plant based, it is a great way to adapt a recipe for a vegan or dairy free diet.
